Former local Peter Keane (pronounced "Cane") will return to his hometown for a show this week. The rootsy singer/songwriter left Cincinnati several years ago for the east coast, and, in 1994, he relocated to Austin, Texas. Keane spends much of his time on the road and has also done studio work, including playing guitar with like-minded, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Bill Morrissey. Keane's own superb latest release, Another Kind of Blues, is highlighted by a thoughtful writing style, engaging Blues/Folk songs and Keane's soulful vocals. Keane has drawn numerous critical raves, most impressively from the legendary Carole King. On Keane's new album, King is quoted as saying, "What a perfect example of music for its own sake — pure and simple ... Keep 'em coming!" We concur.
Keane plays Thursday at Stanley's.— M.B.
