Robert M. Williams, M.A., is the originator of Psych-K®, a safe and effective way to change self-limiting subconscious beliefs that block you from your goals. He left the business world to begin a private practice in psychotherapy but after a number of years felt that something was missing from the process. Psych-K was developed in 1988 as a result of a search through many alternative modalities and a "divine download" at a time of deep frustration.
The new scientific paradigm states that it's perception that controls the expression of our genetic tendencies, not the inherent qualities of the genes themselves. Our perceptions control our biology, direct our behaviors and profoundly influence our health. The instructions to activate or suppress a gene come from outside of it. Our perceptions determine the limits of what we can achieve, not our genes.
We acquire our "basic operating software" during the first six years of life from our parents — how we view ourselves comes from remarks made about our personal traits that we "download" as fact. These so called "facts" become our perceptual filters (software) for reality. They define us as worthy or worthless, powerful or powerless, self-reliant or independent and so on, imprinted in our subconscious mind. They become the "autopilot" that engages without our conscious knowledge and sabotages our conscious will.
The process of Psych-K uses "balances" — cross-talk between the hemispheres of the brain — to change a limiting belief. This way we have the advantages of both right and left brain "to maximize our response potential to life's challenges."
