Ray's Music Exchange Returns!

In July of last year, members of one of the more popular Cincinnati bands of the past 20 years — the Jazz/Funk/Fusion/Rock/Electronic/Etc. troupe Ray’s Music Exchange — got back together for a reunion concert at (now defunct) Silverton venue Play By Play. The show — for which special T-shirts were made — was such a huge hit with fans, the musicians have decided to make the reunion gigs an annual affair. The members are re-teaming Saturday at Newport’s Southgate House for the second annual reunion show and this time they’ll have much more than just T-shirts for their supporters. Last year’s performance (Ray’s first in five years) was filmed and a DVD of the show, titled A Live Rayunion, will be available Saturday. The DVD — available at cooler local retailers on Tuesday — includes over two hours of performances as well as bonus audio tracks.—-

Ray’s had many members over its run; its revolving door policy was part of what made the group's music so incredibly diverse. Ray’s alumni slated to appear Saturday include Brad Myers, Nicholas Blasky, Joe McLean, Paul Hogan, Michael Mavridoglou, Matthew Hawkins, Jason Smart, Eli Hludzik, Nicholas Mavridoglou and Steve Kortyka. The band — and a few special guests, including local Jazz pianist Steve Schmidt (who'll open the show up with his Organ Trio) — will perform a lot of Ray’s material alongside tributes to Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan and The Beatles.

Superfans can also catch Ray’s Music Exchange at the Clifton Heights Music Festival, performing a “teaser set” at Christy’s at 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Tickets for Saturday's Southgate House show are available through www.ticketfly.com for $15 or at the door the night of the show for $18.
