Cincinnati's most popular place to see/hear top musical acts every summer (as well as Jimmy Buffett), the outdoor amphitheater Riverbend, was built right on the shores of the Ohio River, giving concertgoers a nice nature setting in which to enjoy concerts. But the location comes with risks, something again made evident today in an announcement from the venue. Due to the crazy amount of rainfall the past couple of weeks (and the subsequent high river levels), Friday's sold out Riverbend season opener featuring Country star Jason Aldean has been postponed until August. —-
Just one day after a Riverbend press release announced that the Aldean show had sold out, the venue's promoters were forced to send out a less exciting release about the concert being moved to Aug. 19. It's not the first time river activity has had an effect on Riverbend operations. Flooding has been an issue with a few concerts in the past, including a 2001 scheduled performance featuring sibling-acts The Black Crowes and Oasis (which was not rescheduled) and Pearl Jam's planned concert there in 2003 (also never rescheduled). In April, flooding caused Riverbend to post online that their box office might not be open on time for those wanting to be the among the first to score tickets to The Decemberists' concert, which were to go on sale at 10 a.m. (fans had options, as all other ticket sellers were unaffected).
If you planned to attend Friday's show and were excited to check out opening acts Eric Church and the JaneDear Girls, you're out of luck. Aldean's Aug. 19 make-up show will feature openers Thompson Square and Chris Young.
Tickets for Friday's concert can be used for the Aug. 19 date. Those wanting refunds can do so at the point of purchase. The Riverbend season now officially kicks off with Phish's concert June 5 (and, as of now, Baby Riverbend — aka PNC Pavilion, on the same grounds but further from the river — is still on schedule to open its season May 29 with Weird Al).
