Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride

When peering into the cold, starry sky from the Sandyland wagon, you really feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere or, more specifically, somewhere you shouldn’t be. Trespassers are treated to a slow-moving creepmobile trip through a haunted cornfield and woods. Not that you’d want to get off — imagine the walk back! Stalks of corn conceal all manner of fiends, and it’s anyone’s guess as to which scarecrow is really a murderous malcontent. An enthusiastic cast boards the wagon and menaces passengers, picking on the weakest of the lot. The crowd frenzy is what drives this frightful game, so your best bet is to get on a packed wagon with the buggiest folks you can find.

Horror movie scenes are the focus here, with tributes to Friday the 13th, Saw and a Silent Night, Deadly Night room in which a girl is hacked to death before your eyes. Other than that, nothing’s too terrible and that’s the only thing that makes Sandyland unsuitable for young kids. The best part is the funeral scene in which a troop of floating spooks carry a coffin to its final stop. The new Snakes on a Plane tribute, called Snakes on a Wagon, is funny but does little to provoke fear.
