While I'm not sure the logic of naming your band something so difficult to spell (let alone pronounce), Schfvilkus (derived from the Yiddish word meaning restlessness) is an extremely creative and entertaining Jazz/Funk quartet from Nashville that has shared the stage with artists like Stanley Jordan, Wayne Horovitz and King Crimson offshoot ProjecKt 2. The band's latest release, Generalization, is an intriguing hybrid of modern, urban beats, jazzy, aural experimentation and deep, soulful grooves. Largely instrumental, Generalization is as fulfilling an excursion into boundless Fusion that you'll likely hear these days.

At Top Cat's on Thursday.
