The third annual Record Store Day, a celebration of independent record stores on April 16, is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with hundreds of special, limited-edition releases and in-store appearances around the country by some of the biggest names in music, from Jerry Lee Lewis to Foo Fighters. Northside’s Shake It Records has firmed up its Record Store Day lineup. As previously mentioned, Talib Kweli and Wussy will appear at Shake It for RSD and the shop recently added another local heavyweight to the festivities — Foxy Shazam. —-
The Cincinnati-bred Warner Bros./Sire recording artists are set to perform an acoustic set to close out Shake It’s Record Store Day at 9 p.m. Foxy Shazam is in a rare touring lull, having been on the road seemingly non-stop since the release of their self-titled major-label debut last year. But the break won’t last long — the progressive, eccentric, eclectic and electrifying group gets back on the road starting May 20 for a two-week tour opening for Panic at the Disco. After that, Foxy jumps aboard the Van’s Warped Tour train (as of now, the group isn’t on the lineup for the tour’s local stop at Riverbend Aug. 2).
Kweli is now slated to appear at Shake It at 1 p.m. on RSD. The modern Hip Hop legend will do either “a short set or Q&A” session, then sign copies of his latest, Gutter Rainbows.
Wussy, the biggest act on the Shake It label, are set to perform at 7 p.m. A previously announced, Shake It is offering a Wussy RSD exclusive — a live acoustic recording of the band’s debut album, dubbed Funeral Dress II. Listen to the track “Airborne” from the limited-edition release here.
