Think Dreamgirls without the specificity of real life inspiration. Unfortunately, the film has the pall of the tragic death of co-star and producer Whitney Houston hanging over it, but likely many fans will rush to see and hear her last performances captured onscreen. Sparkle is the follow-up to director Salim Akil’s Jumping the Broom. Now in theaters. (PG-13) Not screened for review
