The Cinciditarodis a competitive event in which teams must push their way through a nearly five-mile course over the streets of downtown, Over-the-Rhine, Newport and Covington while physically attached to decorated shopping carts. The second annual Cinciditarod is a tribute to the Iditarod, the extreme dog-sled race held every year in Alaska, where teams must fight through blizzards and sub-zero weather to reach the finish line. Although the weather conditions in Cincinnati aren’t quite that brutal, Cinciditarod teams (consisting of five people each) are faced with other obstacles, including five mandatory check points and a grocery list of items that each team is required to pick up along their way. The race begins on Fountain Square at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and will end at the same location. All grocery items collected will be donated to the FreeStore FoodBank. Get details here.
