Cincinnati’s favorite flat-track derby team, the Cincinnati Rollergirls (yay!), begin their fifth season this Saturday when they host the San Diego Derby Dolls (boo!). For those unfamiliar with the sport, it’s a fast-paced indoor roller skating race around an oval track with designated points-scoring fast skaters for each team. There’s also a lot of pushing and shoving (yay!) and funny announcers who provide commentary during the matches. The Cincinnati Rollergirls are comprised of a JV team, the Silent Lambs, and a varsity squad, the Black Sheep, both of which are sure to compete, not that winning is everything (boo!). The Rollergirls and other members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are real into sportsmanship and camaraderie among their diverse membership. P.S. The Cincinnati Gardens sells beer and nachos. Doors at 6 p.m.; matches start at 7 p.m. $10-$15.
