Looking for something fun on a Friday evening? I suggest you invest $15 (in advance, $20 at the door) and stop by Below Zero Lounge (1122 Walnut St., Over-the-Rhine) for Broadway Loves the '80s, a benefit featuring the cast of Legally Blonde the Musical. —-
It supports an array of worthy causes — Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, STOP AIDS Cincinnati and the Acclaim Awards. The touring cast (the production continues through Sunday at the Aronoff) is a talented and energetic crew: after tonight's performance they'll head north several blocks to Below Zero's festive environs and sing the night away with tunes from the decade of Swatch watches, Rubik's Cubes and Pop Rocks. The event also salutes the tour's director and choreographer, Jerry Mitchell, who created "Broadway Bares," an immensely successful BC/EFA fundraiser, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. Various touring productions are helping to raise funds against a $1 million goal for 2010, and the Legally Blonde cast is the leading tour production in this effort.
Whether you're catching one of the extended performances of The Marvelous Wonderettes at Ensemble Theatre or Legally Blonde at the Aronoff, I urge you to finish your evening at Below Zero. You'll have a blast and support several worthy causes.
