There's nothing unlucky about Friday the 13th in the theater world. (Theater folks have enough other superstitions anyway.) So you have lots of excellent choices this weekend, from the very funny The Foreigner at the Playhouse (just opened) to the satiric Timon of Athens at Cincinnati Shakespeare (see review here).
If you want a heavy-duty drama, try Bent at New Stage Collective (it's about the mistreatment of gays in Nazi concentration camps; see my review here). And if you want to see some of the talent that keeps spilling out of UC's College-Conservatory of Music, I recommend that you stop by the Over-the-Rhine nightclub Below Zero tonight after 10 p.m. —-You'll have two chances to catch a cabaret act, Ashley Squared, featuring Ashley Kate Adams from Louisville and Ashley Patricia Burns from Overland Park, Kan.
Adams has performed on other local stages, including ETC's productions of The Great American Trailer Park Musical and Grey Gardens; Burns has done tons of work at CCM, in addition to several professional venues in Kansas City. Both performers (who are already members of Actors Equity) were featured in CCM's recent musical Two Gentlemen of Verona. They're heading to New York City this summer, and their act is an effort to raise some funds to cover the costs of life in the big city.
The two shows will be in Below Zero's upstairs cabaret loft. Doors open at 10 p.m.; there's a $5 cover charge. They'll be on Broadway soon, so now's your chance to check them out right here in Cincinnati.
