Stage Door: Take Your Pick!

There are several interesting things happening onstage this weekend, many with very short runs. Miami University has opened a two-weekend run of The Wiz (a funky musical adaptation of The Wizard of Oz) and Showbiz Players begins its run of Altar Boyz (an amusing musical about a boy band that was a big hit for the Playhouse a few seasons back). On Saturday, for one day only (two performances), you can see a one-man touring production of The Screwtape Letters based on a novel by C. S. Lewis (author of The Chronicles of Narnia). It's at the Aronoff's big hall at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.—- (Buy tickets here.)

You might also want to check out What Happened Bridgie Cleary?, presented at the Irish Heritage Center (3905 Eastern Ave., Columbia-Tusculum). It's based on an infamous true story from 1895 in Tipperary about a man who believes his wife is possessed by an evil fairy. It's happening Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. For tickets, call 513-533-0100.

Finally, if you haven't yet made plans to see Behind the Eye at the Cincinnati Playhouse's Shelterhouse Theatre, you should. This might be the weekend to go. There were some empty seats on opening night, but once reviews come out and people start talking, this production could be hard to get a ticket for. So I'd recommend calling 513-421-3888 today so you can see the story of the life of Lee Miller, a fashion model in the 1930s, pioneering art photographer and  remarkable war photojournalist during World War II. She was a remarkable woman and this play (and actress Sarah Agnew) capture her feisty spirit.
