Switching between alto and soprano saxophones is as easy for Virginia native and New York-based STEVE WILSON as it is to change gigs as a sideman for Mulgrew Miller, Ralph Peterson or Diane Reeves. Jazz-heads here should thank our lucky horns that Wilson is appearing at The Greenwich with the sultans of Straight Ahead — the Mike Wade Sextet. Wilson blows with the musical versatility of Kenny Garrett and is unfazed at having been confused in print with Steve Coleman, another alto player. Wilson has recorded four discs for the Dutch label, Criss Cross, but for those who don't like playing private investigator to find their Jazz, just be patient. Steve Wilson is in such demand he'll likely soon break out with a major label release and you can say you heard his star rising.

At The Greenwich Saturday.— Kathy Y. Wilson
