The Call

The Call focuses on Jordan Turner (Halle Berry), an experienced 911 operator who takes over a call from a young woman (Abigail Breslin) caught in the clutches of a serial kidnapper/murder from Turner’s past.

Talk about phoning in a Hollywood speed pitch. The Call focuses on Jordan Turner (Halle Berry), an experienced 911 operator who takes over a call from a young woman (Abigail Breslin) caught in the clutches of a serial kidnapper/murder from Turner’s past. There’s no need to check your caller ID — we all know that Turner’s going to dive into the hunt for the killer and come face-to-face with him in a “highly anticipated” climax. But what boosts the potential reception for this plot-driven thriller is the presence of director Brad Anderson (Session 9 and The Machinist), an indie guy with a BS-detector that would prevent what will likely be a mainstream breakout from becoming just another phone robo-call. Now in theaters. (R) Not screened in time for review
