George Clooney’s latest multi-hyphenate effort skipped the over-crowded awards season of 2013, which means that its arrival now stands as a treat for adult audiences starved for something other than warmed-over Oscar fare and the disposable winter herky-jerky snacks that stock the multiplexes. The Monuments Men tells the tale of a ragtag collection of art experts-turned-military recruits (led by Clooney and Matt Damon) tasked with stealing the great masterworks of our times from Hitler and the Nazis before they are destroyed. With support from the likes of Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman and Jean Dujardin, you can’t be faulted for wondering who called for this Ocean’s without right-hand man Brad Pitt. Opens wide Feb. 7. (PG-13) Not screened in time for review
