Director Nick Ryan (writer and director of A Lonely Sky and The German) and writer Mark Monroe (writer of The Cove and The Tillman Story) dare to take audiences on a quest to discover what happened on the day when 11 mountain climbers perished (either killed outright or simply vanished) on K2, the world’s most dangerous and beautiful mountain. The documentary features actual participants involved in that climb and seeks to explore the tale from the perspective of one of the climbers, Ger McDonnell, who came upon three members of the group, tangled up in their ropes, and faced the dilemma of either moving on (the accepted unwritten course of action for high-risk mountain climbers) or working to save them, while possibly endangering his own life. The outcome must be seen to be believed. Opens Oct. 18 at Mariemont Theatre. (R) Not screened in time for review
