A tri-partisan mix of Cincinnati City Council members are once again reaching across party lines to hold a joint fundraiser — and bragging quite a bit while doing it.
Democrat Jeff Berding, Republican Leslie Ghiz and Charterite Chris Bortz are holding a campaign fundraiser together on Oct. 7. The trio also held a joint fundraiser in 2007 and often receives campaigning advice from Jeff Cramerding, executive director of the Charter Committee, Cincinnati’s de facto third political party.—-
The announcement for the event reads, “Join our hosts for a cocktail reception to meet the three most qualified members of City Council.”
Berding, Bortz and Ghiz frequently team up on City Council on policy issues, especially budget matters. They typically are in the minority, joined by Republican Chris Monzel. Although running as a Charterite, Bortz is a registered Republican.
Berding, a Cincinnati Bengals marketing executive, was recently unendorsed by the local Democratic Party for his alliances, along with criticizing other Democrats on TV and radio.
Host committee for the event includes Laura Strietman, spouses Crystal Faulkner and Tom Cooney and spouses Cindy and Robert Conway. The fundraiser will be held 5-7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Strietman's home, 3565 Bayard Drive. Cost to attend the event is $300 per person, so each candidate can receive $100.
Those must be some mighty powerful cocktails.
