Thousands turned out yesterday for the burial of a veteran who had no family in Cincinnati to mourn his passing.

Spring Grove Cemetery reached out to the Cincinnati community via a Facebook post on May 24 to invite everyone to attend a funeral for Korean war veteran Hezekiah Perkins.

The post explained that Perkins had arranged for his funeral and burial over 20 years ago but, unfortunately, none of his immediate family lives in town. Spring Grove Cemetery explained that the family requested that Perkins be buried with Military Honors.

Thousands of strangers showed up to Hezekiah Perkins' funeral. Another Facebook post by Spring Grove Cemetery following the ceremony showed their appreciation to the community.

"Thank you to the thousands of patriotic citizens who came to pay tribute to Veteran Perkins today," the post read. "We are humbled by the turnout and so very proud of our Spring Grove Family and especially our community."

Spring Grove Cemetery has a Veterans Tribute inside of Norman Chapel that will be open on Memorial Day from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. for visitors to honor and remember local veterans.
