Director Oren Moverman’s Time Out of Mind has suffered a fate similar to its protagonist George (Richard Gere), a homeless man who, after wandering the streets, seeks refuge at a Manhattan intake center. George strikes up a friendship with another man (Ben Vereen) in need and begins to make an attempt to reach out to his estranged daughter (Jena Malone). Moverman garnered critical attention (and a Best Original Screenplay nomination) for The Messenger and praise for his action chops with Rampart. This Time, he has burrowed just as deeply into the issues of homelessness and mental illness, resulting in a film that has received polite mentions during its festival run, but little in the way of real attention. (Opens Friday at Mariemont Theatre) (No Rating) Not screened
