UC Adds Columbus PF for 2012?

Word on the Internet these days is that Mick Cronin has secured a verbal commitment from Columbus Northland High School power forward Devon Scott, who apparently tweeted the news after visiting the UC campus on Tuesday.—-

Scott is a 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward who this blog recently watched play. Here's its description of his game:

“Scott is quickly closing the gap on the state's top centers and appears to be a solid mid-major plus prospect at this point. He has dominated the paint the last two weekends with his physical play and ever-improving low post skills. Scott even showed the ability to step out and take the 15-17 foot jumper. More importantly, when the game is on the line he is demanding the ball in the post and finishing with authority. We have always loved his motor and emotion, but now that his skill set is catching up, it's even more reason to admire Scott's long-term potential.”

Another site described him during his junior year as having “crazy long arms and nice hops.” Sounds like the type of player Cronin likes (the type that can JAM IT IN THE HOOP!).

The University of Cincinnati hasn't released anything official on the situation. Should Scott actually be committed to the 'Cats, he would be the first verbal of the 2012 class. UC's six-player incoming freshman class was ranked No. 25 in the country by scout.com, but the Bearcats will be without forward Yancy Gates come 2012, so adding a big man or two is likely part of the plan.

Here's a video of Scott getting some rebounds, shooting a few free throws and dunking a couple of times:
