Effective and Healthy Vaccines?

Dec 6, 2006 at 2:06 pm

Physicians are only as helpful as the tools they wield. And in an attempt to limit the severity and cumulative impact a pathogen has upon us, modern medicine uses the strategy of vaccines.

Vaccination shots are heralded as the answer to combat just about everything from the flu to cancer. Some drug companies are even currently pursuing an obesity vaccination!

So what's potentially wrong with this approach? There are plenty of reasons for concern that these strategies might not work as we are lead to believe, and in some cases they cause irreversible harm and even death.

As recently as last month, Canadian researchers revealed that individuals given flu shots have a 45 percent greater likelihood of developing Guillian-Barre syndrome — a serious health condition similar to Multiple Sclerosis. The American Association of Physicians and Surgeons reported in 2005 that the Meningococcal vaccination commonly forced upon college students has had similar results. Preliminary studies also suggest that the cumulative affect of yearly vaccines can result in an increase in the probability of developing diseases like Alzheimer's.

What about routine childhood vaccinations?

A study by the Centers for Disease Control revealed that children who received the HiB vaccine were five times more likely to contract the disease than children who hadn't received the vaccine. In 1992 a study published in The American Journal of Epidemiology showed that children die at a rate eight times greater than normal within three days after getting a DPT vaccination.

When policies changed in Australia to allow individuals the right to choose if their children were vaccinated or not, approximately 50 percent of the population chose not to. The death rate attributed to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) dropped by the same percent.

These are just a few points of interest related to any potential harm associated with the dangerous drugs and a side of a debate that's rarely if ever heard. But what about the effectiveness of vaccines?

The New England Journal of Medicine says that over 80 percent of children under 5 years of age who contract whooping cough are fully vaccinated. Two months ago The British Medical Journal said that the effectiveness of annual flu shots has been exaggerated — they have little or no effect on many influenza campaign objectives, including reducing the number of hospital stays, time off work and death from influenza and its complications.

As you read this article, keep in mind that our children now receive as many as 39 doses of vaccines for 12 different viral and bacterial illnesses, and there are literally hundreds of new vaccines in development. Also know that death rates dropped more than 90 percent in the early 20th century before vaccines were introduced. This drastic improvement was due to wellness strategies like those found in this regular column, not false promises and reliance on vaccinations for "health."
