The dynamic between fathers and sons offers an endless thematic pool for storytellers of all stripes. You Will Be My Son, the latest film from Parisian co-writer and director Gilles Legrand (producer of The Widow of Saint-Pierre and Micmacs), tracks the tumultuous relationship between Paul Marseul (Niels Arestrup), the owner of a prestigious winery, and his son Martin (Loránt Deutsch) who works on the family estate. Paul wants to pass the family business on to Martin, but feels his son is not equipped to handle the task. Of course, Paul sees, in the bonds between other fathers and sons, the potential he finds lacking in Martin, but must make peace with his own situation — even if it means hand-picking a successor from outside the family. Opens Oct. 4 at Mariemont Theater. (R) Not screened in time for review
