SUNDAY 11 EVENT: Second Sunday On Main Over-the-Rhine’s monthly summer street festival takes it to New Orleans for a Second Line parade — a tradition that reflects the line of dancers who follow the main event (hence the name). Starting at 1 p.m., participants can follow the Nasty Nati Brass Band in a short procession around Over-the-Rhine with the Q-Kidz Dance Team and the Afrakan Artist Alliance Stiltwalkers; feathers, beads, parasols, glitter and any other over-the-top attire is encouraged. The rest of the fest will feature mainstage performances from Romel Sims, The Hot Magnolias, Cincy Steel and an encore from Nasty Nati. In addition to the parade, find all your favorite SSOM activities including a biergarten, vendor booths, food trucks and Main Street merchants. Noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Free. SATURDAY 17 ATTRACTIONS: Festival of Lights The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden does its annual glow-up with the 36th-annual Festival of Lights, the No. 1 zoo light show in the country (as voted by USA Today). More than 3 million LED bulbs will transform the park into a “Wild Wonderland” with festively adorned foliage, glowing animal sculptures, the ever-so-instagrammable rainbow-light tunnel and fun holiday and nature scenes depicted in twinkling bulbs. There will also be a black-light puppet show, Toyland Express train ride, everyone’s favorite synchronized holiday music-and-light display on Swan Lake and assorted s’mores stands. FRIDAY 02 MUSIC: Radio Artifact’s One-Year Anniversary Party One year ago, online radio station Radio Artifact was launched by Northside brewery/music venue Urban Artifact, featuring unique, community-minded programming that, like the bookings at Urban Artifact, is heavy on music created by locals. Since its launch, the station has joined the Cincinnati Public Radio family, becoming part of the organization’s digital radio platform (you can find it on the HD2 station of 91.7 FM, making it a sister channel of WVXU). This weekend, the venue is hosting a birthday celebration for Radio Artifact featuring many of the on-air personalities from the channel. The show hosts will chat onstage about their different programs and, since many of the hosts are also musicians, the musical entertainment for the night will be provided by local bands that include Radio Artifact DJs among their members. The music lineup includes performances from Go Go Buffalo, The Phasmids, Phasmonaut, Venicia & the Shadow People, Hot Diggity Daffodil and Fitz Pape, who hosts the Ambient and Drone music program The Hum every Wednesday at 10 p.m. Listen to Radio Artifact online at radioartifact.com. 8 p.m. Friday. FRIDAY 14-SUNDAY 16 EVENT: Cincinnati Comic Expo The Cincinnati Comic Expo features celebrities from the varied entertainment realms the expo represents: actors, artists, writers and designers from film, television, comics and gaming. Two big 2018 appearances are Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known as Jaime Lannister from the nearly-concluded Game of Thrones, and Peter Mayhew, made supernaturally famous as Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise. But there’s plenty of star power over the expo’s three-day stretch; check the expo’s website for the full slate of guests. And it's not just about the celebs. They're appearances are complemented by dozens of vendor booths, a cosplay element, costume competition, workshops and panels, the longstanding Geek Prom (this year is Midwest Muggle Fest, an extension of last year’s Harry Potter prom theme), and even speed dating and an annual blood drive.
