A devastating tornado ripped through the East Nashville area on March 3, killing 24 and leaving many more missing, with ruined homes and businesses in its wake. And the local Coppin’s at Hotel Covington has decided to lend a hand to those affected by supporting Nashville service workers and their community.
Now through March 22, the bar will be giving $3 from every $10 Here Comes the Sun cocktail sold to the Nashville Chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild (USBG). The initiative was spearheaded by Megan Dillon, director of food and beverage at Hotel Covington and former Nashville resident. The cocktail, which features Tito’s vodka, housemade ginger syrup, lime, raspberry liqueur and soda water, was created by bartender Karen Puttman.
“I lived and worked in Nashville for more than 10 years. The devastation felt by hotels, restaurants and other hospitality businesses in the region is unimaginable,” Dillon says in a release. “Many service industry workers rely on their regularly scheduled shifts for a living. When I started to receive calls from my former colleagues in the aftermath of the tornadoes, I knew we had to help.”
Hotel Covington General Manager Jack Olshan agrees. “As big as the hospitality industry is, it is really a close knit family,” he says in the same release. “When Megan brought this idea to the table it was a no brainer. In this family, we take care of our own.”
Hotel Covington is also accepting donations of home care and personal care items, baby supplies and toiletries. Those who donate will receive one raffle ticket per item at the front desk to be entered to win a prize; there is no limit to the amount you can donate.
Raffle prizes include a grand prize trip for two to Nashville; a second prize of a one night stay at Hotel Covington, a gourmet dinner for two at Coppin’s and a Paolo Diamond Date Night experience; and a third prize includes a $50 gift card to Hotel Covington and a Donna Salyers’ Fabulous-Furs throw.
The Hotel Covington staff will personally deliver those donations to the Nashville USBG on March 23.
