On Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, Indie Rock band Mt. Joy and Folk/Bluegrass band Trampled by Turtles will play at the new Andrew J Brady ICON Music Center downtown.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16 via ticketmaster.com and iconmusiccenter.com.
Mt. Joy began as a musical venture between two Philadelphia friends, Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper. After high school, the two had drifted apart, only to be reunited again in Los Angeles. They joined up with multi-instrumentalist, Michael Brynes, through a Craigslist ad. Together, the three formed Mt. Joy, named after a mountain in Valley Forge National Park, where Sam used to live as a child.
Trampled by Turtles originated in Duluth, Minnesota in 2003 thanks to a few car thieves. Dave Simonett was playing a show with his previous band at the time, and didn’t know that the music gear left in the vehicle was being ransacked by delinquents. However, the loss spurred him to pursue music that didn’t require amplification — considering he lost all the equipment he had except an acoustic guitar. Bluegrass and Folk were the answers to his predicament.
Together with Ryan Young, Tim Saxhaug, and Dave Carroll, the new group formed their signature Rock & Roll and Bluegrass sound.
