Organizers behind the 47th-annual Cincinnati Pride Parade and Festival have made the difficult decision to cancel the rescheduled event for 2020.

The celebration was originally scheduled for June 27, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was rescheduled for Oct. 3.

Cincinnati Pride posted their announcement on Facebook today, explaining the circumstances and their reasoning behind their decision, and also discussed next year's event.

"Given the constant threat of Covid-19, it is not in the best interest of the community in which we serve to have such a large event that places tens of thousands of attendees at such high risk for spreading this potentially deadly virus," said Benjamin Morano, festival and parade chairperson in the post.

"We will begin work on our 2021 festivities in a few months, continuing to adjust to the new normal we face. We welcome anyone who is wanting to help in the planning process. And remember, Pride is more than just a festival or a parade. It is more than just one day per year. Pride is a constant state of mind, one that we should all be able to embrace every day."

Next year's event will take place on June 26. But in the meantime, Morano, on behalf of the rest of the Cincinnati Pride Board of Directors and Planning Committee reminds folks to verify you're registered to vote, and get registered if you are not yet.

"Vote. Volunteer. Protest. Make your voices heard. Stay healthy, stay safe, and continue fighting for justice and equality for all," the post reads.
