Organizers have postponed the annual Cincinnati Polar Plunge originally scheduled for Saturday as temperatures are expected to continue to plummet.

Temperatures in Cincinnati this weekend are currently forecasted at a high of 15 degrees, with lows dipping into the negatives Friday night into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Due to the extreme cold, the Cincinnati Polar Plunge is now being moved to Saturday, March 21.

“The decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of participants, volunteers, athletes, law enforcement, and spectators. All event details, including the plunge location and format, will remain the same,” organizers said in a press release.

The Cincinnati Polar Plunge is part of a statewide series that benefits Special Olympics Ohio, with volunteers signing up to take an icy dip in a plunge pool to raise money for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Funds raised help support year-round sports training, competitions, leadership opportunities and health programming.

The plunge will still take place outside Holy Grail Tavern & Grille (161 Joe Nuxhall Way) on the Freedom Way side. Both individuals and teams are invited to take part in the plunge, and costumes, team themes and friendly rivalry are all encouraged.

Participants who already registered will receive updated information soon, say organizers. Registration and donations will remain open here.
