Melodies will now fill the air at Great Parks' Glenwood Gardens as a highly anticipated interactive music garden opens.

The music garden features all-weather percussion and can be found in the park’s Highfield Discovery Garden. The new attraction blends a love of music with a reconnection to nature, says Great Parks.

“This inclusive garden is the perfect pairing of nature and music, and every day will deliver one-of-a-kind performances by children and other guests that will add to the magic and beauty of Highfield Discovery Garden,” Todd Palmeter, Great Parks CEO, said in a press release.

A treble clef marks the path through the garden, with different instrument stations, including drums, chimes and bells, set up along it, and the notes to “You Are My Sunshine” can be found hanging above the garden’s stage. Plants in the garden have music-themed names, like rainbow rhythm daylilies, lyrical blues meadow sage, fiddlehead fern and spring symphony foam flower.

The parks system says the garden honors the memory of Becky Reed, a naturalist who worked at Glenwood Gardens for years and had the vision to add a music garden to Highfield.

The music garden is the eighth themed garden at Highfield Discovery Garden, joining the ranks of the Wizard’s Garden, Vegetable Garden, Butterfly Garden and more, all of which surround the magical 25-foot-tall Discovery Tree. Great Parks says they also plan to use the music garden as the setting for formal nature education programs.

Admission to the Highfield Discovery Garden is $6 per person, but children under 2 get in for free.
