Experience the magic of mermaids at the Newport Aquarium this fall.

For the first time in three years this fall, mermaids will be flipping their fins around Newport Aquarium. Guests can meet and interact with the mermaids on select days from Sept. 23 to Oct. 22.

The mermaid experience begins in the Shark Ray Bay Theater where you can meet a mermaid on her throne and snap a picture. You’ll get to hear about the mermaids’ journey from around the globe, as well as learn more about their mission to protect oceans and waterways from single-use plastics and how you can help.

From there, mermaids can be found diving in the 60,000-gallon Coral Reef Tunnel among hundreds of tropical fish. You can take in their underwater acrobatics and beautiful, flowing tails – and some lucky guests will also receive a famous bubble kiss.

Visitors can also explore Mermaid Cove, a corner of the aquarium that the mermaids turned into their own tropical hideaway. Here, mermaids can swim right up to you for a photo, song or story. They might even let you touch their tails.

“Mermaids is the kind of experience that goes beyond the normal to something that is truly extraordinary,” Rebecca Foster, Newport Aquarium’s executive director, said in a press release. “When you see the look on a child’s face when they see a real mermaid swimming underwater, it is nothing short of magic.”

Mermaids is included with Newport Aquarium’s general admission and memberships. The experience runs from Sept. 23 to Oct. 22, but the mermaids will not be at the aquarium on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

You can learn more about the mermaids or buy tickets here.
