The first LEGO-inspired cafe in Greater Cincinnati — and the United States — is slated to open its doors this week.

The Brickery Cafe & Play at Newport on the Levee will officially open Friday, Dec. 1, and on Saturday, the cafe will host LEGO celebrity Paul Wellington, who is on the current season of Fox’s LEGO Masters. Wellington will be signing autographs and offering photo ops from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cincinnati native Daniel Johnson owns The Brickery. The café’s concept combines dining, shopping and entertainment under one roof and will be a totally immersive space for both kids and adults to engage their imaginations and build with LEGOs.

“As an extreme fanatic of LEGO myself, I’m constantly in awe at how the toy has continued resonating with every generation for nearly a century. My family and I are so excited to join the Levee crew and we can’t wait to share this new journey with our neighbors,” Johnson said in a previous press release.

The Brickery features three main parts, including a kids' play and discovery area. This space will be designed for kids ages 5-12 to play with some of the biggest and most elaborate LEGO sets, including Harry Potter-, Star Wars- and Marvel-themed ones. The themed sets will rotate monthly. There will be a small entrance fee, and The Brickery will also sell monthly passes.

The Brickery’s café will sell light refreshments, with a focus on hand-crafted, flavored sodas and mocktails, along with teas, coffee, lemonade, fresh-baked desserts and other snacks. There is also a retail space where you can buy new and used LEGOS.

The space itself will showcase LEGO designs of Cincinnati-area landmarks and other works of art in the windows, and inside there will be a mural painted by local artist Jonathan Queen. Every seating area in the store will also have LEGO bricks to play with, and if you like your creation, you can buy it and take it home.

The Brickery also plans to open a private event space for birthdays, company meetings, date nights and more, as well as hosting community events like Sip and Brick classes, LEGO Masters watch parties and themed building tournaments.

The cafe is located in The Gallery next to Velocity Esports. It will be open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
