A former Cincinnati bookstore will reopen in Anderson Township this spring after its Northern Kentucky bookstore/vintage boutique location closed last July.
Like flipping pages of a book, The Tome Bookstore is moving onto its next chapter. The shop, now reimagined as Tome Books & Novelteas, first opened in Mt. Washington in 2022 but closed the following year and rebranded as Scarlet Rose Books & Vintage Boutique in Ludlow. However, owner Jeremy Spencer shared on social media last summer that Scarlet Rose would also close.
“The decision to close was not due to a lack of support or any wrongdoing by anyone,” Spencer said at the time. “The reality of competing with larger booksellers and their ability to offer substantial discounts made it challenging to sustain our small business in a way that benefited our family. Nonetheless, the support and love we’ve received from all of you have been overwhelming and deeply appreciated.”
But in February, Spencer returned to social media to share a twist in the plot.
“We’re Back, Cincinnati! We’ve missed you all SO much, and we are beyond excited to finally share the news… Tome is reopening! Now known as Tome Books & Novelteas, we’re bringing back everything you’ve loved about us—plus even more to enjoy!” he shared.
Tome Books & Novelteas will offer the same community events, cozy vibes and selection of books as before, says Spencer, but this new iteration will also sell a variety of teas and packaged snacks you can enjoy while you browse, as well as clothing and jewelry. The new location, 6089 Salem Road, will also have plenty of seating and comfortable spaces to host groups, book clubs, writers or just those who need a place to work or relax with a book and cup of tea.
“Tome Books & Novelteas isn’t just a bookstore—it’s a space where stories come to life, friendships are built, and creativity thrives. In a time when independent bookstores are disappearing, we are committed to creating a welcoming, community-driven space that offers more than just books,” Spencer wrote in a description for an Indiegogo fundraising campaign.
Spencer says the bookstore is expected to open in May. He’s currently raising funds through the Indiegogo campaign to go toward reopening. As of this writing, the fundraiser has received just over $2,400 toward its $20,000 goal.
“We can’t wait to see your familiar faces, welcome new friends, and continue building this incredible community together. Thank you for your love and support—we’re ready to make Tome Books & Novelteas your favorite place to shop, sip, and connect!” he wrote.
