The Tome Bookstore (2123 Beechmont Ave.) in Mt. Washington will close July 1.

A beloved Mt. Washington bookstore is slated to close this summer, but that’s not all to be written, say the owners.

The Tome Bookstore announced Monday, May 22 that they will shutter their brick-and-mortar store on Beechmont Avenue July 1. They say despite their patrons' best efforts, there wasn’t enough community support to keep them profitable.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of Cincinnati for embracing us and being part of our journey. Your enthusiasm and love for books have been the driving force behind our passion. We are immensely grateful for the connections we've made, the conversations we've had, and the memories we've shared within these walls,” the owners wrote on Facebook.

But that wasn’t all: The owners say the bookstore will return in a “newly imagined way” and that they have exciting news they’ll share in the next month or two.

“Rest assured, our commitment to creating a vibrant literary experience remains stronger than ever. While we have not yet decided on the location for our comeback, we are fortunate to have a healthy number of options under consideration. We are carefully evaluating each possibility to ensure that we find the perfect place to continue serving you with the same passion and dedication,” they wrote.

The owners also launched a GoFundMe campaign to help them restart the bookstore. You can donate here.

“Thank you for being an integral part of our journey. We are deeply grateful for your support, and we couldn't embark on this new chapter without you. We will keep you updated every step of the way as we forge ahead with excitement and determination.”

The Tome Bookstore says all scheduled events up until they close will still take place. You can follow their updates here.
