No. 8 Best Overall Bar/Club: MOTR Pub
1345 Main St., Over-the-Rhine Photo: facebook.com/MOTR PubMecca OTR
1429 Walnut St., Over-the-Rhine
This hip OTR hideaway is a welcoming hangout for those interested in no-frills drinking, L.A. vibes, vinyl tunes and free popcorn. Find the main courtyard entrance tucked away down 15th Street, and cross the big-ass gravel patio, past colorful street-art murals, a panoply of rainbow lighting and a plethora of communal seating to enter a world of hanging plants (in summer the patio is decked out in greenery as well) and the most creatively decorated — dare we say selfie-ready — bar bathrooms in the city. Dogs are always welcome, as long as it’s not too crowded; nobody wants to see stressed-out doggos. Mecca has water bowls, poop bags and sometimes treats on hands for furry guests.

Longfellow is the foreplay; Longfellow’s Other Room is where you call the Uber because the time to get in bed is NOW. While you and your date sit in the tucked away island that is Longfellow’s Other Room, you can’t help but let your feet brush, your hair flip and your drink linger on your lips to torture your partner. Maybe it’s the candle light, maybe it’s the paperback novel innuendo in the bar’s name, but it’s probably just the mezcal. Some horny bars have an inexplicable reason, like Chameleon in Northside. Many who started their night at the Loon up the street end up at Chameleon, making out with their best friend in the corner during last call. You don’t care who sees you, and you’ll find a way to tell them you’re still just friends in the morning. Photo: facebook.com/chameleon.comedy.clubTwenties
Have you SEEN the mood lighting in Twenties? The 1920s-themed craft cocktail bar has low ceilings with dramatic brick arches that are lit from below, giving you a Bond-like backdrop to sip your gin martini and not-so-subtly seduce your lover. With three locations, Cock & Bull brings the spirit of the U.K. to Cincinnati with a name derived from two of the oldest pubs in London. With a beer menu featuring stouts and porters, and award-winning fish and trips, you’ll feel just like you’re in jolly old England. The swanky boutique Symphony Hotel has a cozy jazz lounge that will make you say ”let’s get it on.” The menu has craft cocktails and chocolate-y desserts bound to stimulate your, uh, senses. The sultry sounds of live jazz make the rest of the world go quiet … : “Are you sure there’s no vacancies?” Photo: facebook.com/SymphonyHotelMadonna’s Bar & Grill

This cozy downtown dive bar has a pool table and jukebox, friendly bartenders (say hi to Downtown Scott Brown) and a great burger.

739 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine
Kanji focuses on sushi and Korean cuisine inspired by local restaurateur Inho Cha’s desire to offer Cincinnati a glimpse into the culture and flavors of his home country, South Korea. The menu features some familiar rolls from Drunken Bento — another of Cha’s restaurants — including the Big Baller, Sunday Morning and Zen Garden. In addition to sushi and nigiri, the menu boasts familiar Korean dishes like dolsot bibimbap — Cha’s favorite dish — served in a hot stone bowl with crispy rice, vegetables, choice of protein and a sunny-side-up egg, as well as chicken, pork or fish katsu; bulgogi; and tempura udon.
