Findlay Market is welcoming a new family member, Flavors of the Isle, into the fold.
The “new” vendor was already bringing Jamaican flavor to eager foodies as a member of the Outdoor Market and Findlay Kitchen, a non-profit supporting local food entrepreneurs. Flavors of the Isle is now moving into a new, more permanent home across from the Market House in Over-the-Rhine that will open to the public on Oct. 8.
Flavors of the Isle is a Jamaican soul food restaurant and bar that specializes in famous Jamaican jerk chicken and is owned by Detroit-native-turned-long-time Cincinnati resident Ebony Williams. Upon moving to Cincinnati in 2000, Williams discovered that there were only a small number of ethnic eateries, and, according to the restaurant's website, she created Flavors of the Isle to help address that shortage.
A grand opening celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 8. There will be free samples, guest speakers, prayer and a performance from the Nasti Nati Brass Band. At 1 p.m. that day, Flavors of the Isle will open to the public. Guests will receive free rice and peas (another Jamaican favorite) with any purchase.
Flavors of the Isle is located at 1807 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine. To learn more about Flavors of the Isle, visit flavorsoftheisle.com.
