A Cincinnati brewery is celebrating International Women’s Day by paying homage to one the most legendary painters of the 20th century and throwing a couple big events.
MadTree Brewing says, each March, it celebrates International Women’s Day by hosting its Ascending Women Event Series and creating a specialty beer or Sway (its vodka soda brand) that honors an iconic female trailblazer, but this year, they’re doubling up on both.
For the beverages, MadTree is offering Frida, a limited-edition Sway tequila and soda that features prickly pear, lime and jalapeño, and Flower Crown, a new IPA crafted with Pink Boots. Both drinks are a nod to Frida Kahlo, a Mexican surrealist artist, activist and feminist icon.
“From concept to liquid creation, this is a team effort by the women at MadTree,” Brittany Frey, MadTree’s production manager, said in a press release. “Frida and Flower Crown are the newest editions in an International Women’s Day tradition that spans the last six years. We’re proud to serve customers products that taste great and tell the stories of women who’ve made their mark on the world.”
MadTree will also host two big events celebrating women in art. Ascending Women is happening Thursday, March 7 from 5-8 p.m. and will include a panel discussion featuring local influential women in art, special exhibits and 25 booths featuring female makers and vendors. Tickets are between $15-$32 and can be purchased here, but walk-up tickets are offered as well.
Then, on Friday, March 8 from 5-8 p.m., there will be a free Women in Art Showcase in MadTree’s Barrel Room. It’ll feature an interactive art experience, as well as over 30 female artists and vendors and additional art exhibits.
Clothing donations for Dress for Success and Adventure Crew will be accepted at both events.
“International Women’s Day is one of our favorite celebrations here at MadTree. The female-identifying employees come together to craft incredible beverages and bring to life amazing events,” Rhiannon Hoeweler, vice president of experience and impact, said in the release.
