Downtown Mason’s Banana Leaf Modern Thai has been a community staple for more than a decade, inhabiting a historic building at the corner of E. Main Street and Mason Montgomery Road.

Last month, the restaurant’s owners announced via a Facebook post that they would be permanently closing its doors on Jan. 23. 

“Thank you, thank you, thank you for your years of support and loyalty. We’ve come to know many of your families and consider you friends. We are proud to have been a part of the Mason community for 11 years!” the post read. 

The restaurant was well-known for its modern, upscale Thai dishes made with fresh ingredients that were grown in the gardens around the property, which surrounded the lush back patio space. 

And the actual building has had a reputation for being haunted, though we have no reason to believe that this unfortunate news stems from its infamous past.
