After several years of growing their brand through pop-ups, wholesale operations, events and collabs, Silverton-based coffee roasting brand Proud Hound Coffee is ready to welcome the community to their new cafe and kitchen.

Launched in 2019 by pup-loving coffee aficionados Daniel Smith and David Holman, Proud Hound focuses on serving ethically sourced beans. Their 4,000-square-foot warehouse located at 6717 Montgomery Road is already home to the brand’s roasting facility, and now they’ve dedicated a portion of it to serve the coffee-loving community face-to-face.

The kitchen and cafe’s grand opening will be held on Saturday, June 26.

Proud Hound’s new cafe offers a “clean, inviting and eclectic color palette,” says director of wholesale Israel Jones, and will have room for 45 guests via a blend of bar seating, community tables and more. Jones also expresses the brand’s focus on customer inclusivity when building out and planning the space, with the installation of a handicap wheelchair lift and the inclusion of infant high chairs, changing stations and unisex bathrooms.

“The foundation of Proud Hound’s mission is exuding ‘Dignity For All’; including coffee farmers, wholesale relationships, employees, customers and our neighbors,” Jones tells CityBeat.

“Consider when you meet a dog in public, it’s more often than not you will ask the name of the dog, forgetting the personhood of the owner. Proud Hound wants to reverse this trend; illuminate the profound purpose and constant awareness of the valued humans (and dogs) involved in every degree of life.”

In addition to drip coffee, house and single-origin espressos, the cafe will offer a variety of milk and milk alternatives for all your coffee-infused beverage needs, plus Vancouver imported teas from 05 Tea, housemade flavor infusions and chai tea. There will also be some experimental coffee creations.

Proud Hound has brought in chef Kierstin Dudley to lead the kitchen, which will boast a Southern-inspired breakfast and brunch menu, with a focus on locally sourced ingredients and seasonal dishes. Jones says the menu will also feature options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets.

In addition, the space will have a retail spot for coffee beans and Proud Hound Coffee merch.

The cafe will be open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
