A Cincinnati wine bar is getting national recognition as editors of a prestigious magazine take notice in their latest issue.

In its Oct. 31 issue, wine culture magazine Wine Spectator named Ripple Wine Bar in O’Bryonville in its rundown of “Our Editors’ Favorite Wine Bars.” The list features wine bars from across the world, including in cities like New York City, San Francisco, Paris, Florence and Tokyo — “all places where wine is poured with care and every glass is a special occasion,” according to Wine Spectator

Matt and Kathleen Haws founded Ripple in 2019 and now have two locations in the Tri-State, with the other in Covington. Molly Decker is the wine director, overseeing the list of 43 wines by the glass and over 100 bottles. This year, Ripple was also awarded a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, which honors restaurants with wine lists that feature a well-curated selection of quality producers along with a thematic match in price and style to the menu.

Wine Spectator’s associate tasting coordinator, Cassia Schifter, contributed Ripple to the list, highlighting the wine bar’s robust and expertly curated list of wines; savory food menu with options ranging from truffle popcorn and charcuterie to Japanese BBQ pork belly and shrimp and grits; and the Wine Cats club and monthly wine-tasting socials.

“With around 100 well-curated selections, including more than 40 wines by the glass, the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence–winning list is particularly strong in representing California but also includes choice options from Italy and France, including top wines from Produttori del Barbaresco and E. Guigal,” writes Schifter.
