A popular Ohio German restaurant is bringing its famous sausages to Cincinnati permanently.

George Schmidt opened Schmidt’s Sausage Haus in Columbus’ German Village in 1967, just around the corner from his grandfather’s popular meat-packing business. Since then, the restaurant has become a landmark eatery, thanks to meat recipes from the family’ meat-packing days and desserts from the first German women hired to work in the kitchen. Now, the Queen City will get a taste of the iconic dishes as Schmidt’s opens its first permanent food truck here.

The newest Schmidt’s Sausage Truck is hosting a soft launch this weekend, visiting the All Saints Parish Festival in Kenwood Friday-Sunday, May 31-June 2. After that, the truck will host its grand opening at 11115 Reading Road, Sharonville from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 6.

The occasion will be marked with a special ribbon cutting with Sharonville mayor Kevin Hardman, and for every jumbo cream puff sold during the opening, $1 will be donated to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

The truck’s menu features Schmidt’s legendary sandwiches crafted with meats like bratwursts, real German bologna and frankfurters. There are also sides like German potato salad, sauerkraut and red cabbage; potato soup; and jumbo cream puffs for dessert.

Schmidt’s says it will also bring a second sausage truck to Cincinnati in the fall.
