Most photos of hot dogs uploaded to Instagram in 1 hour Record set on Oct. 9, 2024 To honor its 75th birthday, Skyline held a big party at Fountain Square on Oct. 9, 2024. As part of that party, Skyline set up a Guinness World Record-setting attempt: Have Skyline fans post as many hot dog photos on Instagram as possible within a single hour. The goal was at least 500 hot dog photos. The record attempt ran from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that day, with Fountain Square featuring a countdown clock and partygoers packing the space, lifting up paper trays of coneys to find that perfect angle with the Tyler Davidson Fountain in the background. But during that hour, pictures of coneys poured into Instagram from elsewhere across the city. When all was said and done and the posts verified by Guinness World Record representatives, Skyline officially had 1,080 hot dog photos submitted to Instagram with their hashtag, more than doubling their original goal. Skyline Chili got its birthday wish and is now a Guinness World Record holder.

The iconic Cincinnati chili chain held a party at Fountain Square for its 75th birthday Wednesday, complete with coneys, Graeter’s Ice Cream, local sports mascots and more. One of the biggest parts of the party was Skyline’s attempt at setting a Guinness World Record for most hot dog photos uploaded to Instagram in a single hour, with a goal of 500.

“We were trying to find something fun,” Adam Schacht, director of corporate restaurant operations at Skyline, told CityBeat. “We wanted us to really make a statement and say, ‘How many people can we have eating our product at the same time and sharing it on social?’ That way, everyone knows how awesome our stuff is.”

The record attempt ran from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with Fountain Square featuring a countdown clock and partygoers packing the space, lifting up paper trays of coneys to find that perfect angle with the Tyler Davidson Fountain in the background. But during that hour, pictures of coneys poured into Instagram from elsewhere across the city. When CityBeat checked at the half-hour mark of the record attempt, Instagram said that there were already over 1,000 posts sporting Skyline’s official hashtag for the event, #SkylineChiliWorldRecord.

While partygoers waited for the hour to run down and see if the record had been set, mascots like Gary the Lion, Rosie Red, Who Dey, Puckchop and more entertained guests with dancing and other mascot antics to amp up the energy. Free Coke slushies and Graeter’s ice cream were passed out and Cincy Shirts sold merch.

At the hour mark, Skyline CEO Dick Williams took the stage with Chloe, a Detroit representative from Guinness World Records, who announced that there were over 1,500 posts made with Skyline Chili’s world record attempt hashtag, solidly putting Skyline on the path to being named a world record holder. Guinness World Records would have to verify the posts met their standards before anything could be declared officially.

However, that official declaration wasn’t far off. At 5:30 p.m., Skyline made the announcement on social media:

“What a blast! We more than doubled the record for most hot dog photos uploaded to Instagram in an hour and are still counting! We’re thrilled to announce that we are officially Guinness World Records holders! BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!! Shoutout to everyone who posted their photos! #SkylineChiliWorldRecord.”

During the party, Dewey’s Pizza also announced a special, limited-time pizza in honor of Skyline’s 75th birthday. The Skyline Dip Deluxe Pizza will be available through Oct. 16 or while supplies last, and it features a cream cheese base topped with Skyline Chili, mozzarella, mild cheddar, small red beans, diced onions, sour cream, diced tomatoes and chopped green onions. A dollar of every pizza sold will be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati.
