It’s hard to know how you can best help the people of Ukraine as they resist Russia’s invasion. Sarah Dworak, the owner and operator of Wodka Bar OTR and Babushka Pierogies, whose family hails from Ukraine, is offering one option. She has joined with the global series of fundraising events called "Cook for Ukraine" to direct aid to those most severely affected by the war.

She has produced a limited number of meal kits containing Ukrainian favorites, including pierogies, borscht, stuffed cabbage rolls and walnut kolachi (sweet pastries).

They are
available for $150 and can be ordered at wodkabarotr.com/cookforukraine.

All proceeds minus the cost of ingredients will be equally distributed to UNICEF Ukraine and Nova Ukraine, a nonprofit organization that raises cash for emergency aid.

“These are some of the dishes my Baba (grandmother) taught me how to make. These dishes were enjoyed during simple Sunday suppers in her kitchen, as well as holidays throughout the year,” Dworak wrote in a recent social media post shared by her two businesses, both known for excellent Eastern European fare.

“There are approximately seven million displaced Ukrainian children in Eastern Europe right now,” she continued. “Please help us help the most vulnerable right now.”

There are 100 meal kits available, so place your order quickly if you want to receive one. The meal kits can be picked up at Wodka Bar on Saturday, March 12, from noon-2 p.m.
