Wikipedia describes Goatwhore as “blackened Death Metal.” Apparently absolutely nothing escapes being blackened in New Orleans.
The band began in 1997 with Acid Bath guitarist/vocalist Sammy Duet’s intention of making raw, fast Death Metal that broke from the Gothic sensibilities of Scandanavian Metal. Duet and drummer Zak Nolan began working on Black Metal jams during breaks in Acid Bath’s schedule. When Acid Bath dissolved following the death of bassist Audie Pitre, Duet and Nolan recruited Soilent Green guitarist Ben Stout and bassist Patrick Bruders to form an actual band (the name came from an epithet directed at an unattractive stripper by one of Duet’s friends).
