Cincinnati is one step closer to naming its next city council member.
Cincinnati City Council member Reggie Harris has narrowed the list of candidates for the council's upcoming vacant seat to 12, Harris' chief of staff Gus Ricksecker told CityBeat in a Dec. 7 email. Since late November, nearly 50 people had applied for the position that Greg Landsman will vacate in January when he heads to Washington, D.C., to represent the 1st District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Landsman has designated Harris as the council member who will appoint Landsman's successor.
Harris presented a list of 38 viable applicants (of 49 total) during the council’s Nov. 29 public safety and governance committee meeting, soliciting feedback from the council about the qualities Landsman's successor should have. The current list of candidates was narrowed from that.
Eleven people are under consideration. A twelfth, Angelica Hardee, has withdrawn her application. The candidates are:
- Gavi Begtrup
- Galen Gordon
- Jaime Castle
- Cam Hardy
- Evan Nolan
- Michelle Dillingham
- Alyson Beridon
- Seth Walsh
- Jackie Frondorf
- Te-Airea Powell
- Bree Moss
Landsman has said that because he will be sworn in as a congressman on Jan. 3, he plans to formally resign his Cincinnati City Council position on Jan. 2. His successor then would take the city’s oath of office that morning.
