On Sunday, Gov. Andy Beshear said that Kentucky had just set a record for the state’s highest number of COVID-19 cases reported in a week: 9,335. It was also the highest number of cases reported on a Sunday: 1,462.
Kentucky’s last record-breaking week was Oct. 5-11, when 7,675 positive coronavirus cases were reported over the seven-day span.
There are currently 841 Kentuckians hospitalized for COVID, 231 in the ICU and 106 on a ventilator, according to the governor.
“Since March 6, Kentuckians have been fighting COVID-19, yet we are facing the highest number of cases ever reported on a Sunday, and the highest week of new cases. We must do better,” Beshear said. “We all know the steps we need to take to stop the spread of this virus — wear a facial covering, wash your hands, stay six feet apart and limit gatherings and travel — let’s all do these simple things to protect each other.”
Beshear will be talking about new recommendations for red counties during his Monday press briefing at 4 p.m. Red counties are those that have 25 or more average daily COVID cases per 100,000 residents.
