Many quarantine homesteaders have been either experimenting with planting their own gardens for the first time or possibly starting their annual planting early out of boredom.
If you’ve done either/both, get your frost blanket ready this week because Mother Nature is about to be a real mother to those little seedlings.
According to the National Weather Service, we may have two opportunities to see frost or freezing temperatures this week.

The first chance for below-average temps is Thursday, with a real chance for good freeze or frost on Saturday.
To protect your little buddies from the cold hand of death, the Farmers’ Almanac says, “If a frost is predicted, cover your plants, both to retain as much soil heat and moisture as possible and to protect them against strong winds, which can hasten drying and cooling. You can use newspapers, baskets, tarps, straw, and other materials to cover your plants. Cover the whole plant before sunset to trap any remaining heat. Be sure to anchor lightweight coverings to prevent them from blowing away.”
