Toil and Trouble

Toil and Trouble

If you know Shakespeare’s Macbeth, then this new play at Know Theatre will seem familiar. In Toil and Trouble (words chanted by witches prophesying Macbeth’s turbulent future), two ambitious modern-day buddies and a badass girlfriend scheme to parlay power into quick wealth.

They’re not exactly usurping a kingdom; in fact, their plan is to take over a remote island off the coast of Chile. But despite threads of malaise, this humorous tale is wickedly funny. It’s just the second time Lauren Gunderman’s script has been staged.

8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday through Aug. 24; 3 p.m. show Aug. 11. $15 in advance; $20 week of the show. Know Theatre, 1120 Jackson St., Over-the-Rhine, knowtheatre.com.
