A Williamstown, Kentucky-headquartered food truck, Belle’s Smokin’ BBQ, posted and then removed a Facebook post offering a T-shirt that many found offensive and homophobic.
The post said it was stocking up on “some Swag,” and had hats and shirts with the Belle’s logo, as well as “our LGBTQ shirts.” In the photo on the post, the shirt read, “I support LGBTQ: Liberty Guns Bible Trump BBQ.” Fans were instructed to order their shirts by sending a “text message.”
After a flood of outraged Facebook comments and what the company said were “polite” phone calls, the post was removed, though many users reposted screenshots of the original post.
In a follow-up post, the company wrote, “Thank you all for your comments and your polite phone calls. This wasnt intended to offend. It’s a simple ACRONYM. THATS ALL.”
The shirts were similar to a popular T-shirt slogan that left off the “Q.” According to streetfoodfinder.com, Belle’s food truck travels to the Greater Cincinnati area extensively.
