A Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy has died after being struck by a driver while working a traffic detail at the University of Cincinnati Friday.
According to Cincinnati police, the crash happened around 1 p.m. along Martin Luther King Drive and Burnet Woods Drive. The recently-retired deputy was working a special detail for UC’s graduation ceremony; officials have not released the name of the deputy.
Police said the retired deputy was transported to UC Medical Center, where he died. The driver of the vehicle remains in critical condition.
“All of our hearts are with the Sheriff’s deputy who was tragically hit this afternoon,” mayor Aftab Pureval shared on social media.
According to CPD Chief Teresa Theetge, the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed the deputy is the father of Ryan Hinton, the 18-year-old male who was shot and killed by a Cincinnati Police officer on Thursday. CPD has not released the name of the father.
An investigation is ongoing.
