Cincinnati’s first creative reuse center and art supply thrift store will celebrate seven years of business during its annual fundraising event in December. Indigo Hippo launched its year-end fundraising campaign Nov. 15, which accompanies the annual event.

The ReMADE: A Sustainable Art Experience fundraiser is on Dec. 6 at the Woodward Theater. The fundraising event will be an evening of art, music and community that supports Indigo Hippo’s longstanding mission of reducing waste, inspiring creative reuse and broadening accessibility to art and craft materials. The event will also feature an exhibit of local artists’ work. Submissions for the exhibit will be accepted through Nov. 29.

This year Indigo Hippo rescued 25,000 pounds of creative materials and supplies from landfills, according to a press release (an amount equal to the weight of 6 hippos, the release says). Support generated from ReMADE will directly serve Indigo Hippo’s mission, its Over-the-Rhine storefront and an initiative to launch art programs for youth next year.

“From the very beginning, Indigo Hippo has been dedicated to combining care of the earth with care of people,” Emily Dake, co-founder and executive director of Indigo Hippo said in the release. “We believe the arts should be accessible to everyone and next year we’re looking to contribute even more in that regard. As a small nonprofit, we couldn’t have accomplished what we have already without the support of our amazing community, and we are so excited to be able to share this special event with them. It’s our hope that through the support generated by events like ReMADE, we will not only be able to increase our sustainability efforts but also expand our creative outreach and programming.”

ReMADE will also offer a silent auction and artist-led experiences. In 2017, Indigo Hippo employed a “pay what you can” pricing scale, a method of payment that allows visitors to pay the amount they are able to afford for items in the store. Items are categorized by color with price suggestions for each one. Tickets for the ReMADE fundraiser are being sold as a “pay what you can” purchase as well.

ReMADE: A Sustainable Art Experience fundraiser is on Dec. 6 from 6-9 p.m. at the Woodward Theater. Find tickets here. For more information about Indigo Hippo, donating to the cause or the event visit indigohippo.org.
